For the last three years, Professor Austin Mason and I have been working with students at Carleton College to create a serious video game about the Boston Massacre. As I had begun to untangle the relationships between soldiers and civilians in Boston between 1768 and 1770, students helped me create the maps in chapter three.

Using Global Information Systems (GIS) mapping technology, we first stretched William Price’s 1769 map of Boston

onto a modern map of the city

We got a lot of data on this map! (coming soon – a way to show the database underlying the taverns, residences, and temporary barracks)

Taverns, military families, and civilian residents in Boston, 1768-1772

We were sure, however, that we could do something more interesting with all this information.
